TRAI, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India allowed Indian mobile phone customers to change their network service provider to another network by using mobile number portability service (MNP). Here’s how you can port your existing mobile number to another Network –

Step 1:

First you will have to send an SMS from your mobile, PORT<your mobile number> to 1900. Eg. SMS PORT 98XXXXXXXX to 1900

Step 2:

Within some minutes, you will receive UPC (Unique Porting Code) as a SMS from 1901.  The mobile operator gives to its subscribers 8 digit alpha-numeric code (UPC) and UPC expiry date in MM/DD/YYYY format for the purpose of facilitation of porting of his/her mobile number to another operator.

Step 3:

Now visit the nearest Simcard outlet/ showroom (where you wish to port) and tell your request to the concerns.

Step 4:

Thereafter fill up Mobile Number Porting (MNP) form providing details like Current Mobile Number, Current Operator name and UPC code and Submit your Photocopy of ID Proof and a recent Passport size photo.

Step 5:

The customer centre will give you a new SIM, after your payment and document submission. Within 1 day you will receive an acceptance message to confirm the porting.

Step 6:

now your new sim will be activated within 7days (15th working day in case of Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and North East service areas).  You will get an SMS from the operator with the date and time for porting. The service disruption time shall be around 2 hrs during night time of the date/time of porting.

Step 7:

Insert the new sim in your phone and enjoy your new network with old number

In India all networks like Airtel, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, Vodafone, BSNL, TATA DoCoMo, Virgin Mobile, Aircel, Uninor, MTS, Videocon, MTNL, S Tel , Loop Mobile, Ping Mobile etc are support this service.
