Andhra Bank was initiated in 1923 in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh by Dr. Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya and registered on 20th Nov. in year 1923 and started business on 28th Nov in the year 1923 with a paid up capital of 100000(US$1,600) and a certified capital of 1 million (US$16,000) In 1956, linguistic partition of States was circulated and Hyderabad was made the capital of Andhra Pradesh. The registered office of the bank was later shifted to Andhra Bank Buildings, Sultan Bazar, Hyderabad, Telangana. In the next phase of nationalization of money-making banks begin in April 1980; the bank became a completely owned Government bank. In 1964, the bank combined with Bharat Lakshmi Bank and further consolidated its position in Andhra Pradesh.
